The Magic of Myrrh
Myrrh is a sacred oil of Ancient Egypt once valued more than gold. It has been used for thousands of years due to its amazing properties.
Myrrh's therapeutic properties are mentioned in the Bible, the Koran, and in ancient Egyptian, Chinese, Greek and Roman texts.
It was used by the ancients as perfume, incense and as medicine treating infections, bruises and skin conditions.
Metaphysically Myrrh represents the eternity of Spirit, Resurrection and Divine Love. Myrrh was present at Jesus Christ's birth, death and entombment.
Myrrh represents the energy of The Divine Mother, whether she is called Mary or Isis. (The names “Mary” and “Myrrh” both derive from Egyptian “mry” meaning “beloved.)
Cleopatra was attuned to Myrrh, and it is said that Queen Hatshepsut had Myrrh trees planted in the courts of her Temple Complex. In Ancient Egypt Myrrh was used to invoke the presence of Isis.
In Ancient Egypt Myrrh was found within every temple. It was part of sacred practices, ceremonies and rituals. Every Priestess knew Myrrh and her properties.
Myrrh was the guiding Mother Oil for the Myrrhophores; temple priestesses who worked with sacred oils for healing.
SUPPORTING THE DEATH/REBIRTH PROCESS
Myrrh has been used to support the dying for thousands of years. Myrrh was said to remove all fear of death, so the anointed would feel at peace and be surrounded by love throughout the dying process.
Additionally, Myrrh was said to quickly usher the soul into the “rebirth” of eternity, working as a direct portal to the afterlife.
Supporting the dying was an important part of the work of a Myrrhophore. This was to prepare the way for the Soul. The sacred oil would realign people with their true soul essence and carry them to the other side. The Myrrhophore would hold a vigil, usually three days, whilst praying and bringing forth the healing wisdom and divine message of the oil. (Mary Magdalenes vigil for Jesus is an example of this)
Note: As she worked with sacred oils, the Priestess herself was also the oil; the gateway to the inner temple.
Turning to the oils, and its pure expression of the Divine, The Priestess offers herself as the bridge, bringing the gift of wholeness and healing.
The combination of her Holy Presence, tender voice and sacred oils brought people into the arms of the Divine Mother so they could heal soul wounds not only from current life, but from past lives as well.
Myrrh was also a very important agent for embalming.
Myrrh can accompany us in the many death/rebirth processes that is experienced throughout life. In these processes there is release before the new is born. Myrrh offers great support on this journey, bringing a sense of release with grace and ease, surrounded by love and compassion.
